What was the name of the Christian sect that believed Jesus to be a rebel against a 'tyrannical God'?

I believe that it was extant at some point during the middle-ages, before being massively persecuted and driven to extinction.

Thank you in advance for any help

What was the name of the Christian sect that believed Jesus to be a rebel against a 'tyrannical God'?
The Gnostics, they are still extant and they have never been considered a sect of Christianity.

edit:

Come think of it, the Gnostics believe that the God who created this world is either evil or deluded and the "real God" is considered benevolent not tyrannical, so I may be wrong.
Reply:Yes, it is the Gnostics, but "John D" is incorrect when he claims they have never been considered "Christians." Christian is a term that loosely applies to ANY religion/faith that acknowledges Jesus Christ as the basis of their faith (including Gnostics, Catholics, Baptists, Cathars, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc., etc.). Claiming they are not Christian is arrogance no different than the long-standing feud between all the "Christian" denominations that each claim they are the ONLY sect that correctly believes and therefore can claim the title of Christian.
Reply:Gnostics.

It seems they actually READ the bible.
Reply:The Gnostics.

Although Gnostic Christianity is no longer around, there are still some Gnostic religions around today.

Eg: Mandeanism, which follows St. John the Baptist.
Reply:Most Gnostics don't believe that Jesus rebelled against a tyrannical God or that the creator of the world is evil. So they can't be seen as Gnostic ideas. Gnosis means knowledge, it's a broad umbrella. Gnostics follow the true teachings of Jesus as set out in the books written by people that knew Him. I don't know the answer to your question, but Gnostics were also persecuted because they were the competition. Jesus spoke of a loving God, that is Gnowledge.
Reply:i don't know

Cecil Rochford D'Oyly John - 1906-1993. If you can't get enough information off the many sites which mention him on Google, then ask the librarian at Tate Britain. The library has many reference books on British artists, and you are asking about quite a well-known one.
Reply:If you google his name as you spelled it you will get many sites up about him. There is one about his biography, but it seems to have a server problem at the moment.

What is the origin of the female Christian name "Wendy"....?

Is it true - as I have recently been told- that this name was actually invented by J. M. Barrie for the character in the book "Peter Pan" and that no such name existed prior to the writing of this book?

What is the origin of the female Christian name "Wendy"....?
I do not think that "Wendy" has any link with Christianity in fact it was a neck name which is now in use.
Reply:yes its true are you wendy?its meaning is nomad, from wendy
Reply:true
Reply:My mothers name is Wendy and the origins are true.

Actually my aunt named her as she and my nan went to watch Peter Pan in the cinema and my aunt suggested it.

Doing a search on the meaning I found this:

"From friendy-wendy. Invented by J M Barrie for Peter Pan."
Reply:WENDY

Gender: Feminine

Usage: English

Pronounced: WEN-dee [key]

Probably first used in J. M. Barrie's play 'Peter Pan' in 1904. It was from the nickname fwendy "friend", given to the author by a young friend. However, there is some evidence that the name may have been used prior to the play, in which case it could be related to the Welsh name GWENDOLEN or other names beginning with gwen meaning "white, fair, blessed".
Reply:biggie sized fries!! thats where it ame from!!=0)
Reply:yes, that's the true origin of Wendy.
Reply:Well I never knew that. Thanks.
Reply:Here's what I found:

Reply:Yup, that's right. I heard the same thing. The name Wendy didn't show up anywhere before the book came out.

Is is wrong to name your son Christian if you are catholic?

Personally, I loved the name Christian when I was a little girl... however, as I grew older I started to move away from the name because of the religious overtones...

I don't think that there is anything wrong with using the name... but if you are concerned, ask your pastor (priest?)
